Last weekend Tathra Beach Bowling Club held the Paul O'Brien Pairs tournament proudly sponsored by Betta Home Living Bega.
Play commenced on Friday with a gloomy forecast however the morning
game was completed before the rain set in and the afternoon game was
postponed. On Saturday a shortened format of 3 games of 15 ends was
played to accommodate the postponed game.
A beautiful morning greeted bowlers on Sunday for the final 2 games of 21 ends. The Canberra combo of Rod To nkin
and Peter McInnes led the field with a host of chasing teams in
contention for prize money. After the morning game Tonkin still had a
comfortable lead with the prospect of playing Gerry Lay and Paul Alker
in the afternoon to seal victory. An excellent game of bowls followed
with Tonkin leading 17-16 going into the last end before Alker trailed
the kitty with his last bowl and finally Lay drew the required second
shot to win 18-17.
A reshuffle of placings took place as a result of the Tonkin/Lay game with the final results being:
First: $1600.00 Kel Brandhoj (Lakes Entrance) Phil Burns (Tathra)
Second: $1000.00 Paul Alker Gerry Lay (Tathra)

Fourth: $320.00 Peter McInnes Rod Tonkin (Belconnen)
Fifth: $160.00 Bruce Tate John Black (Tathra)
